A War Of Christmas Gifts: Ender’s Game Gift Ideas

We’re finally at the last month of the year meaning christmas is almost upon us but most importantly we have about 322 days left until the Ender’s Game movie premiere. As we continue to count down, the blizzard of the holidays keeps us busy in the wallet.

Trying to find a gift for a book obsessed friend? Or an Ender’s Game fan? Well have no fear because EGfandom.net is here!

I’ve compiled a list of some Ender’s Game goodies that would make great gifts for those Wiggin worthy fans and book nerds out there. Also, I want to note that specific gifts on the list  can be customized to your choosing of a book. Look for the * (asterisk) to see which ones can be customized.

As I scoured the interweb I found some great clothing and accessories that would have any Ender’s Game fan sporting their favorite book.

Cafepress.com has some great Dragon Army T-shirts, I heart Bean sweatshirts, even a Dragon Army Bunny. Their collection also includes Peter Wiggin Hegemon 2012 decals, EG bags and I heart Buggers and Bugger Lover T-shirts.

Zazzle.com also has some awesome T-shirts with great EG designs and quotes. And they have a cool “The Ansible” iPhone 5 case.

lookhuman.com has some EG T-shirt designs that are inspired by Battle School’s Rat armySalamander army and Dragon army.

*Looking for something more souvenir like? Well, I found a great shop on Etsy called RaeGun where they handmake brooches, pins, magnets and pendants. You can choose quotes like the famously known “The enemy’s gate is down,” “Ho Ender” or I heart Petra. Also, for those part of the many book fandoms you can choose from a list of books to order from: Ender’s Game, Divergent, Vampire Academy and The Mortal Instruments.

I spoke with Marissa, the owner, and she let me know that she has some more great ideas for Ender’s Game goodies, so I’ll keep an eye out for those when they are made available.

You can also go the traditional route and get your friend, sibling, boy/girlfriend, spouse or parents the Ender’s Game hardcover book gift edition. Maybe even go as far as to get them the Ender’s Game quartet box set because we all know that once we begin with Ender’s Game we can’t stop reading after one book. So maybe you’d want to go with the Ender’s Shadow series box set also. Both sets include the four books in their series.

What better way to spread the word of Ender’s Game than to give the gift of a great story. I’d love to find a “I heart Bean” pendant in my stocking this year or sport with pride a Peter Wiggin for Hegemon T-shirt. That’ll give people something to think about.

Viola Davis Attends CBS’ Teachers Rock Special Concert

Last night CBS put on a special concert benefiting teachers and education. Actress Viola Davis who plays Major Gwen Anderson in the  Ender’s Game movie was among the attendees along with “Dave Grohl, Usher and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and James Valentine.” Including other actors “Meryl Streep, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jennifer Garner, Jack Black, Morgan Freeman and Matthew Morrison.”

The show is set to air Saturday at 8:00 pm E.T on CBS.

A concert is a start of a small thank you to teachers for what they do everyday for our education. Coincidentally, Professor Cross, my first year English professor in college, introduced me to Ender’s Game and in another class with her introduced me to Ender’s Shadow. From there, I went on to read all of the Ender’s series and the Shadow saga. Is there any teacher that inspired you to pursue something that changed your mind or life? Any that, like me, showed you Ender’s universe? Let us know in the comments.

25 Copies of ‘Ender’s World’ to be given away at San Diego Comic-Con

Smart Pop Books will be at the San Diego International Comic Convention July 12-15 and they’ll be giving attendees a chance to win one of 25 copies of Ender’s World (edited by Orson Scott Card himself), a book that will not be coming out until February 2013.

If you are going to be at the San Diego Comic-Con, then be sure to check out their booth and get your badge scanned to enter the drawing.

Come by and ask us to scan your badge to be entered to win an advance copy of Ender’s World. We’ll pick the winners after the end of the convention and notify you via email. Then we’ll ship you your copy, hot off the presses, as soon as they’re printed!

Here’s the synopsis:

Ender’s World conscripts almost two dozen writers of science fiction, fantasy, and young adult books to offer new perspectives on the 1985 novel, along with insights gleaned from other Ender stories that fit within the Ender’s Game chronology, including Ender in Exile and Ender’s Shadow. In addition, military strategists Colonel Tom Ruby and Captain John Schmitt offer insight into the human-Formic war. A contribution from Aaron Johnson, the coauthor of the Formic Wars prequel novels, is also included.

The collection’s insightful analyses and moving personal essays are rounded out with short pieces answering more technically oriented questions about the Ender universe, including: Why is the Battle Room a cube? and Why did the military recruit their soldiers as children?

Great Orson Scott Card Interview

Ho, friends!

If you haven’t seen this interview yet, I’d really recommend it! Card is such an amazing man! As some would say, “a master of science fiction”. In this interview he talks about Ender’s character development, Battle School, how the ideas started, and much more. Just watching this interview really makes me realize how much I appreciate Orson Scott Card.

It’s wonderful to find a story with so much meaning behind it, written by such an intelligent human being. (Might I say that Card’s voice is just perfect? So easy to listen to. Does that sound weird? Na.)
